The Paris Conference on Education

At the The Paris Conference on Education (PCE2026), held at the Sorbonne University International Conference Center (CICSU) in Paris from 15 to 19 June 2026, three researchers from the SLOV2LIN project presented research findings and project activities related to the teaching of Slovak as a second language in Hungarian-medium schools. In her presentation, Mgr. Katalin Hernády Sýkora, PhD. introduced the results of a nationwide study conducted among teachers working in Hungarian-medium primary schools. The research identified a range of didactic approaches used in teaching Slovak as a second language and highlighted their adaptive nature in response to diverse educational contexts. In her presentation, Mgr. Klaudia Pauliková, PhD. analyzed the socio-pedagogical challenges of teaching Slovak in a bilingual minority environment. She emphasized the importance of the school’s linguistic setting, classroom language use, and students’ needs in shaping effective pedagogical practices. In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. PaedDr. Patrik Šenkár, PhD. presented the implementation and outcomes of a national project running between 2024 and 2026, aimed at improving the preparation of future teachers of Slovak as a second language at J. Selye University. The project involved the development of new university courses, the modernization of existing subjects, and the creation of innovative teaching materials. The results presented at the conference confirmed the significant role of research-based innovations in advancing language education and supporting the academic success of both students and future teachers in minority education settings.
